PRC:S-5:AEC-0 keeps appearing with the message “error while retrieving information from the server.”

Whenever we try to download any application from the Google Play Store, we get the above error.
whereas browser and installed applications are working fine.

After searching through Google I found that many of us are afflicted with this problem.

Although there isn't any official communication acknowledging or refuting it but number of solutions have been provided.
In few of the cases, the issue get resolved after hard reboot and few have to clear cache, uninstall updates and clear data or even remove and re-add the Google account.

Below are the steps to carry if one is facing or getting the said Error.

  •   Clear the cache of the Google Play Store app (Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Play Store > Clear cache)
  •  Uninstall updates to the Google Play Store app (Settings > Applications > Manage Applications; select "Play Store" under the "All" tab/filter, and touch "Uninstall updates")
  •    Clear the Download Manager cache and data (Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Download manager > Clear cache and Clear data)
  •    Clear the Google Services Framework cache and data (Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Google Services Framework > Clear cache and Clear data
  •    Try removing your Google account and re-adding it

The options mentioned may vary from handset model.
