Windows 8.1 Update in Windows Phone
Windows Phone 8.1 which has been
launched successfully with Nokia Lumia 630 (inbuilt) and very soon will be
available for other W8 devices. It is yet to be available for other handsets as
an upgrade. It really offers lots of new features which includes Cortana –
already hit in the market.
Many of the enthusiast are looking
for Cortana in their handset which has W8.1 as it is currently only available
for US. Few had worked it out but many are looking for a solution.
Here I have tried to cover both the
option… those who have W8 and want to upgrade to W8.1 and those who already
have W8.1 and want to activate Cortana; other than US region.
Cortana – A virtual digital
Assistance for WP.
Microsoft developed its virtual assistant for the Windows Phone operating system under the codename Cortana, but retained the name for the final product following a strong response in the developer community. The voice actor of Cortana in the games, Jen Taylor, provides the voice for the virtual assistant. Very soon we will have the Cortana virtual assistant on the Xbox One and in Windows 8.1.
Well now, Installing Windows Phone
8.1 as an ‘unofficial’ build like this will void your warranty.
How to Download and Install Windows 8.1 Update in WP
Step 1: Just go to the Windows Phone app studio website
http://appstudio.windows.com/
Step 2: click on ‘Start a New Project
This
is a tool for developers to create simple web apps. There’s no cost involved –
you just need to enter your Microsoft Live account login – probably Outlook/Live
or an old Hotmail account.
Step 3: Go to the Windows
Phone Store on your mobile phone.
Step 4: Download ‘Preview
for Developers’, the app that lets developers get an early look at new versions
of the Windows Phone system. Again, this is totally free to download
Step 5: Once installed, load up the
app and enter your live login details once more. This gives your phone
the go-head that you’re ‘allowed’ to download Windows Phone 8.1 early.
Step 6: Now leave the app and go to
the phone’s Settings menu and select Phone Update. Your mobile is ready to
upgrade to WP8.1 and will start downloading the new Windows Phone 8.1 software.
It will first upgrade to nearest OS and then finally to 8.1. Again, we strongly
recommend backing up any essential data before updating, and think twice before
doing this at all as it may leave your handset dead.
Be patient until the upgrade takes
place as stopping or trying to stop the process may leave your handset dead
which will not be covered under warranty.
That's it enjoy with
Windows 8.1 in your Phones, however you will not be able to experience Cortana until you make certain changes in case you reside outside US.
Will cover it in the next
post that follows...
